Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 2.37 g), a contemporary plated imitation, after 49-48. CAES[AR] Elephant walking right, trampling on horned serpent. Rev. Priestly implements: simpulum, aspergillum, securis with wolf's head at the top, and apex. Cf. Babelon (Julia) 9, Crawford 443/1, CRI 9 and Sydenham 1006 (for prototype). Much of the silver plating missing, otherwise, fine.
